Music video research

Beyonce -Pretty hurts
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXXQLa-5n5w
Camera Work- The narrative of this song is about how girls are influenced by fake people the media and Beyonce shows it’s not natural to be like the girls the media keeps advertising. Iconography-  For iconography the music video uses props such as measuring tapes (Which was to measure her waist)so she can be like something nobody is and she used pills in the video so she can be skinny for her pageant show which is wear this music video is set. Setting- This is set in a pageant show where everyone is judged on how they look.

Bjork-Human Behaviour
Creative Concept- I think it’s about her going on an adventure being chased by super natural things which is subversive because this is not really normal ‘Human behaviour’ to be running from giant teddy bears made to look like grizzly bears.Character- The main character of this music video is Bjork who goes on an adventure and she’s the main singer .Iconography-In this music video there’s teddy bears that have been made big to make this music video more interesting and giant moths which is really different with because everything around those super natural props is normal Setting-This music video is set in the middle of the woods and she’s on an adventure .

1)    Coldplay - The Scientist
Mise-en-scene-
This is probably meant to be a sad apologetic song as he says ‘take me back to the start’ which might mean he want to go back to somebody. The main character in this is Coldplay .They used props like bikes and the bike they use went with the lyrics because when he said back to the stars the bike went back. The setting is of him lying on a mattress on the streets like he has lost everything.
2)    Willow Smith Summer fling
Narrative-This video is about Willow Smith having fun in the summer with her friends they show that in the music video when they jump on the the trampoline in the pool party it shows thm having fun. They use props like pools and trampolines to show them all happy and to show them having a good time. This music party is set at a pool party and through the music video they show them in different places.
3)Rihanna –Diamond
Performance-
In this music video Rihanna uses diamononds in her hands as apart of the performance .This song is about Rihanna comparing her and her boyfriend to beautiful diamonds in the sky as she keeps saying in the song “we’re like diamonds in the sky”.They used propps like like diamonds as the song name is “Diamond”and black horses which connotes

Narrative theory

Todorov: Equilibrian
Todorov suggests that all narratives are from three part structures

Equilibrium>Disequilibrium>New equilibrium

Todorov stated that all narratives start off with an Equilibrium and then a disruption "Disequilibrium"where everything is back to normal and and calm and peaceful as before
In my case study Hunger Games, I can apply this theory because, at the start there is an Equilibrium when Katniss lives in a society where the young people from lots of different districts are sent off to fight in the annual Hunger Games. The Disequilibrium occurs when her sister is chosen and she volunteers to go in her place. This means she has to learn fighting skills and become skilled enough to survive. The New Equilibrium will come  and everything then gets back to normal when she is successful in her mission.

Propp's character types can be seen in this trailer:
Hero- This is Katniss because as she is the main star who trys to save the 12 districts from a very bad quality of living , goning out to fight till deawth every year.

Antagonist: This is the same as a villan and in the hungergames the villan is president snow who is this very cold cruel character.

Heroine:Usually some sort of prize for the Hero's in the hunger games the hero's the get a house as a prize but they cant ever live in that house as they have to mentor the new tributes forever.

Father:In the Hunger Games the father is also like the villain is like the father who gives the reward of finding the badder villain and giving Katniss Everdeen a house.

Helper :In this film the helper is Peter Melark who help katniss through her journey and Katniss starts to fall in love with him after getting to know him.

Donor:In this film Haymitch (Peter and katniss mentor) is the donor who gives them things they may need to survive in the games.

Mentor:In this film the mentor is Haymitch who helps to train them.

Barthes: enigma and action codes

Barthes argues that every narrative has enigma codes and action codes enigma codes are some questions the audience would ask after watching the trailer and in the Hunger Game the audience may  ask will katniss and peter survive.

Barthes action code is when films begin very calm and peaceful but then end up very action pact for example people may start running for their lives that may make the audience think the characters are in great trouble.

Representation

How are women represented in this trailor?
In The Hunger Games trailer, Katniss is represented as a physically strong youg female which is quite subversive as usually the males are the heroes whereas she is strong, independent and tough. She is also presented as a brave fighter, fighting along side the boys; this will surprise the audiance. She's also self sacrificing as her sister was selected to play in one of the hunger games which involves a lot of killing but she put her self out and went in the games for her. This bravery is more of a masculine quality normally in heroes of action films. However, on the other hand, she does have a slim body shape and a pretty face which is more conventional (typical) for female characters in action films.

How are men represented?
In the Hunger Games the male (Peter Mallark) is like the sidekick to the girl which is also quite subversive aas usually the men are the strong ones who take the lead. Peter is seen as quite mentally soft and nice which is usually how females are represented in films. There's also a love triangle between the hero (Katniss) and two love interests, Peter and Gale which puts the male characters in more female roles.

How is the political hierachy represented(president snow and his army)? Why?
President Snow is seen is seen as cold as cold and that synergises with his name which is President"snow"which you only see when it's cold. This name Snow also has connotations of whiteness and he is a white male and top of the hierarchy which is normal for how films represent race. There is a mixture of races taking part in the games but the black and minority characters are more likely to die. Katniss and the two boys are both white which is conventional for action heroes and does not portray a realistic view of the world.

The film represents the reality tv genre that is popular with audiences in the 21st century. This is ment to critisise TV shows of people competing against eachother all for a prise and entertainment for the people who watch it at home. Younge people are being played and being sacrificed over the shock on the evil rich ordiance which is very cruel and wicked thing to do.waisting human lifes.

good
Easily ranks among the best from the Disney Studio, and a very worthy successor to Mulan 1998, a similar story equally well done.

Oddly also seems to be best work ever from Dwayne Johnson, perhaps not the first name I would have associated with "voice acting," but a star turn nonetheless.

If you want to be picky -- which is the reviewer's job, after all -- the momentum slows a little at the top of the third act, but the ultimate themes of redemption, forgiveness and self-discovery at the finale are an absolute joy.

bad
Oh... my... word...

A girl wants to go where her dad won't let her, wants to do what her dad won't let her. Hmm.. sound familiar? Little Mermaid, Aladdin, Poca... Pocahontas, Mulan, Brave and just about every modern Disney. Let's look at gender then Disney, seeing as you're OBSESSED with it:

Male characters: Dad - scared, repressive, short-sighted, wrong. Demi-God chap - selfish, conceited, vain, ineffective, emotionally repressed, thief. Crab - as above (I'm assuming he's male). Coconut Pirates - murderous but ineffectual (I'm assuming their male).

Female characters: Moana - bright eyed, aspirational, quick learner, visionary, empathetic, brave, strong, amazing, indefatigable, indomitable, perceptive. Granny - as above plus supernaturally gifted. Earth Goddess thingy - was only trying to kill people because the male character had robbed her of her precious.

Yawn. Increasingly Disney is working as a SJW - righting perceived inbalances in society. They have obviously perceived a gender imbalance biased towards males in society and have therefore produced their own version of the world where the gender imbalance is biased heavily and totally towards the females. Everything else in the film is nice .

Reviewing or production work- Assignment 2

1) what are the typical conventions you have used:
I have used an age rating on on the bottom right corner and its small so that it creates synergy with other film posters. I've also used a nice bold title which is on the top third so it can catch the viewers attention, the title is just like an college font which suggests the film is based on a high school and i have also used a ratings which most film posters have i used 5 star ratings in the films the "director" has previously done which tells the viewers that this film going to be good as well. For the central image i have used 3 high school girls and you can tell this because they're wearing their school uniform. It also says how the film is "Coming this summer" which is another typical movie poster convention and i put my one just on top of the title because the viewer focus quite a bit in that area.

2)What is the genre of your film and how what your target audience know by the choices you have made?:
the genre of my film is teen/comedy and the target can probably tell because the main image is of three high school girls and teenagers go high school. The back ground of the film poster is pink and the colour pink has connotations of being girly and girls can be quite mean towards each other. The title is "Greenford-Heights" and the bit that says "Heights" might refer to how they're rich teenagers. You can probably tell this film may be set in a school as they're are wearing school uniform.

3)What institutional information have you used to try and sell the film and how does this appeal to the audience?;
For the ratings i did 5 stars for the previous film the director has rated which might make the audience want to see this film as this may be a success as well and on the bottom left of the film poster it has 3 production companies which are quit well known which will also draw the viewers in as that'll  make them think that the film is good.

4) synergy between your story board and trailer:
the story board has synergy to my movie poster as the title at the end "Greenford-Heights" is written in the same thont and also has the same background colour as it does in the movie poster, the story board also has synergy with the movie pioste as it has the same three main images on the movie poster and you cant tell they're the same characters as they have the same hairstyles and the background of that is also pink in the story board and in the film poster. On the film poster the one of the production companys was "Lionsgate" and in the story board it has lionsgate logo aswell.

5) What representations have you use in your film?:
Even though this film is for boys and girls this will probably get alot girls attention as the movie posters main images are three girls. This'llprabably atract mostly teenager as the movie pister has three teenagers as the main image . This film may take place in a high schoool as theyre wearin school uniforms and this school has all mix nationaltys as in the main image in the film poste has three girls from three different bbackgrounds.
